❓ Why do I need 2 or more tax numbers?
The Finanzamt (tax office) assigns a unique Steuernummer (tax number) for each business activity.
For example, if you're a business coach and also write/sell books on the side (or if you’re a yoga teacher selling yoga mats on Etsy), you’ll need two separate tax numbers.
📝 What are my tax obligations in this case?
In this case, you'll need to submit the EÜR (profit and loss statement), VAT pre submission and VAT declaration for each Steuernummer separate, which you can easily do with Accountable.
❗The only exception is the income tax declaration.
While VAT and EÜR are submitted separately for each business, your income tax declaration combines all of your income - whether from multiple self-employment, employment, rental income, or other sources. It’s submitted only once and includes everything together.
For Example: Even if you are subject to VAT and your second business is under the Kleinunternehmerregelung (small business owner regulation), you’ll still need to report all income under one income tax declaration.
💡 What should I do if I have 2 or more Steuernummern?
Currently, Accountable does not support users with multiple tax numbers in one account.
That said, you have two options:
If your second business is small and closely related to your main activity:
We recommend contacting your local Finanzamt and asking to consolidate both activities under one tax number, especially if your second business is limited in scope.
If you need to keep both tax numbers:
You can create an account for each tax number and use it to manage your bookkeeping and submit your EÜR (profit and loss statement), VAT pre submissions and VAT declaration.
⚠️ However, you would need to submit your income tax declaration separately, for example through Elster.
