What is an ASBL/VZW?

An ASBL (association sans but lucratif) is the legal structure that is most frequently used by non-profit organizations in Belgium. It grants an organization the right to pursue activities in Belgium that are deemed to be “in the public interest” as outlined in the law. An ASBL in Belgium is typically managed by a governing board which is elected by the membership.

Creating an ASBL requires the submission of a variety of documents with the applicable registry, including a list of the governing board members. It is wise to consult with a lawyer when taking the steps to create an ASBL.

Can I use Accountable in this case?

Accountable can be used for your ASBL/VZW. However, there are a few limitations for this use case. As a VZW, you have 2 tax obligations and the app can help you with the following:

1- Accounting

  • Invoicing and accounting -> Accountable can work for a small or micro VZW (< 5 workers, less than 334.500€ turnover), as you are only expected to have a simplified accounting. Accountable doesn't support balance sheet and income statement (required for larger VZW)

  • VAT return -> prepared automatically with Accountable in the app

2- Legal

  • Yearly closing: income statement is available in the app. To prepare your yearly budget and minutes of the general assembly, we provide guidelines.

  • Yearly Patrimonial/Wealth Tax (if taxable assets amount >50.000€) -> Accountable provides guidelines (official guidelines available here)

  • Company tax return + publication -> This is not supported by Accountable, and we can provide guidelines.

You can find more information on this link.

💡 When you create an Accountable account for an ASBL/ VZW, you must select “Enterprise” as the account type during the account creation process.

If you are a small ASBL/VZW, we suggest you create your account in order to test the app (you have access to the full app for 2 weeks, free of charge and with no commitment).
