Selecting the wrong company type? Here’s what to do

Step-by-step guidance to verify your account type and what to do if you need to update it.

Choosing the incorrect company type in your Accountable profile can cause mistakes, especially when submitting your VAT declaration. It’s important to verify your company type and correct it if necessary.

How to check your company type 🔍

  1. Enter your VAT number in the search bar.

  2. The result will show your company type:

    • Legal person (Rechtspersoon) means you have a limited company (bv, nv, ...).

    • Natural person (Natuurlijke persoon) means you have a small enterprise (Eenmanszaak).

Can you change your company type in Accountable? 🔄

⚠️ If you selected the wrong company type (for example, Limited company instead of Natural person, or vice versa), unfortunately you cannot change this directly, neither from your side nor from ours.

What to do if you selected the wrong company type 🛠️

1. Export your data:

Download all relevant data such as revenue and expense invoices.

⚠️ Note: If you export your 2025 documents while you have 2024 documents linked to Q1 2025, those documents will not be included in the export.

You can only download them when you export the VAT return for that quarter.

The export is done based on the invoice date.


2. Delete your current Accountable account:

This step is necessary because the company type cannot be changed otherwise.


3. Create a new Accountable account:

Register again, but this time select the correct account type.


4. Import your data into the new account:

  • Upload your previously exported invoices and records.

Revenue:

  • 📥 Click on "Import invoice"

  • 📂 Click on "Select a file or a folder"

  • 🗂️ Select all the revenue invoices

Expenses:

  • 📤 Click on "Upload new expense"

  • 📂 Click on "Select a file or a folder"

  • 🗂️ Select all the expense invoices
