Legally speaking: yes – in some cases. While in reality a digital copy is usually enough, the tax office might request the original during an audit. Our tip: Keep your documents safe, just in case!
How long should you keep them?
Invoices, booking records, tax documents: 8 years (used to be 10).
Business correspondence & other tax-relevant documents: 6 years.
The countdown starts at the end of the calendar year in which the document was created.
💡Accountable tip: Store all your important tax documents in our document repository!
In real life: A digital copy is fine most of the time. Still, we recommend storing your original documents somewhere safe – a place you only visit if there’s ever a serious tax audit.
Do I need to print digital invoices now?
No, of course not. If you received an invoice in digital form, you only need to keep it digitally. No need to print it out.
