The fee is made up of two parts:
a fixed fee per transaction
a percentage of the payment amount
The exact fee depends on the type of card your customer uses.
The fee you'll pay most of the time
The vast majority of payments you receive come from regular consumer cards issued in Europe. For these, the fee is:
European Economic Area-issued Visa & Mastercard (consumer cards)
€0.12 + 1.1% of the transaction amount (excluding VAT)
These are the everyday Visa and Mastercard cards issued to individuals within the EEA, the cards your customers tap with day to day.
Here's what that works out to on a typical payment:
Payment amount | Fee (excl. VAT) |
€10 | €0.23 |
€25 | €0.40 |
€50 | €0.67 |
€100 | €1.22 |
€250 | €2.87 |
€500 | €5.62 |
When a different fee applies
In rarer cases, a higher fee of €0.25 + 2.6% (excluding VAT) applies. This is the case for:
consumer cards issued outside the EEA
commercial cards (business credit or debit cards), whether issued inside or outside the EEA
In short: whenever the card isn't a standard European consumer card, the €0.25 + 2.6% rate applies.
Do these fees include VAT?
No. All fees listed above exclude VAT.
VAT may be added where applicable according to local tax rules.
