Good news first: Yes, you can submit your income tax declaration through Accountable even if you're employed and self-employed. If you have income from a full-time or part-time job (Festanstellung) in addition to your self-employed activity, Accountable can handle both. It also doesn't matter which of the two is your main occupation and which is the side activity.
Your income from both is entered in two different places, though.
✅ Quick answer
Income type | Where to enter it | When |
Self-employment revenue & expenses (your business activity) | Revenues and Expenses sections in Accountable | Ongoing, throughout the year, as you invoice and spend |
Employment income (Gehalt/Lohn) | Taxes → [Year] → Annual closing → Income tax declaration | Once a year, when you file your annual income tax declaration. You also receive an annual payslip from your employer (Lohnsteuerbescheinigung) |
1. Your self-employed income and expenses
It's important that in Accountable, under Revenues and Expenses, you only record income and expenses that are related to your self-employment.
Make sure to also enter your self-employment tax number in your settings > personal details.
For the full settings walkthrough:
👉 Do not enter your salary here - this section is only for your self-employed activity.
❓ Not sure how to add your expenses or invoices yet? See:
2. Your employment income (Gehalt/Lohn)
You report your income from your employment in your section “Taxes” > income tax declaration under the following:
👉 Income > Employment > Continue > Upload your annual payslip or enter the data manually
Why the split?
There's only one combined income tax declaration for all types of income, but the different income sources are listed separately within it (e.g. Anlage S/G for self-employment, Anlage N for employment).
Accountable mirrors that exactly: your day-to-day bookkeeping only concerns your business (the Revenues & Expenses section), while your salary is added just once, as part of your income tax declaration.
