How do I switch from an App Store or Google Play subscription to paying via Accountable?

Cancel your subscription in the App Store or Google Play, then subscribe on the Accountable website to manage your plan and get full VAT invoices.

Written by Louise

To switch from an App Store or Google Play subscription to our payment platform (Stripe), just cancel your subscription in the store, then subscribe to your plan on the Accountable website (web.accountable.eu in Belgium, web.accountable.de in Germany). Your data stays exactly where it is, only the way you pay changes.

In this article, you'll find out why this switch can make your life easier, how to cancel your Apple or Google subscription, what happens to the period you've already paid for, and how to subscribe through Accountable.

💡 Why pay directly through Accountable?

When you pay through the App Store or Google Play, Apple or Google manages your subscription. That means Accountable can't change your plan, refund you, or resend you an invoice.

By switching to our payment platform, you get several benefits:

  • Full invoices with VAT, in your name and with your company or VAT number. This is especially useful if you're VAT registered, since Apple and Google receipts don't offer this.

  • Your invoice added automatically to your expenses in Accountable.

  • More flexibility: you can switch to a different plan or move from a yearly to a monthly plan in a few clicks, without cancelling.

  • Direct contact with our team for any payment question.

👉 How do I cancel my App Store or Google Play subscription?

On iPhone or iPad (App Store)

  1. Open Settings and tap your name.

  2. Tap Subscriptions, then Accountable.

  3. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

On Android (Google Play)

  1. Open the Play Store and tap your profile icon.

  2. Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.

  3. Select Accountable, then Cancel subscription.

ℹ️ Deleting the app doesn't cancel your subscription. Cancelling always happens in the store. For more details, check out our article on cancelling your subscription.

📆 What happens to the period I've already paid for?

It depends on when you subscribed or when your subscription last renewed in the store.

You're within 14 days: request a refund

Within 14 days of your payment, the refund goes directly through Apple or Google. Accountable has no access to these payments, so you need to make the request yourself.

On the App Store

  1. Sign in to reportaproblem.apple.com with your Apple ID.

  2. Click I'd like to, then choose Request a refund.

  3. Select the reason for your request, then click Next.

  4. Choose your Accountable subscription, then click Submit.

Apple processes your request and lets you know its decision by email.

On Google Play

  1. Open a browser (Chrome, for example) and go to play.google.com.

  2. Sign in with the Google account you used for your subscription.

  3. Open the menu, then Account and Order history.

  4. On your Accountable payment, select Request a refund or Report a problem, then the option that matches your situation.

  5. Fill in the form and mention that you'd like a refund.

Google sends you its decision by email, usually within a few minutes, sometimes up to four business days.

💡 Paid through Google Play and would rather not do this yourself? Message us in the chat, our team can submit the refund request to Google for you.

It's been more than 14 days: contact us

Apple and Google no longer accept refunds after 14 days, but don't worry: message us in the chat or at support@accountable.eu. We'll look at your situation together and find the best solution, for example by transferring the unused part of your subscription as credit on your new Accountable subscription.

ℹ️ Make sure to cancel your subscription in the store before contacting us, so it doesn't renew automatically. Once cancelled, it stays active until the end of the period you've already paid for.

For all refund conditions, check out our article on subscription refunds.

💳 How do I subscribe through the Accountable website?

Once your App Store or Google Play subscription has ended, your account automatically switches to the Free plan. Then all you need to do is:

  1. Log in on web.accountable.eu (Belgium) or web.accountable.de (Germany).

  2. Choose your plan and billing frequency (monthly or yearly) on the plans page that opens automatically.

  3. Add your payment method and confirm.

Not sure which plan to pick? Our plan comparison helps you find the right one. And if you'd like a hand, message us in the chat, we're happy to help you set up your subscription.

ℹ️ After cancelling on the App Store or Google Play, it can take a little while for Accountable to sync. If the plans page doesn't show up yet, or if you can't subscribe to your plan through our payment platform, message us in the chat or at support@accountable.eu. We'll sort it out with you.

❓ Frequently asked questions

  • Will I lose my data when I change payment method?

No. Your invoices, expenses and tax returns stay in your Accountable account. Only the way you pay for your subscription changes.

  • I cancelled my Apple or Google subscription, but I can't subscribe on the website yet. Why?

There's sometimes a sync delay between Apple or Google and Accountable after a cancellation, so your account may still show your old subscription for a while. Message us in the chat, we'll check your account and help you finish setting up your subscription.

  • I was charged twice, by Apple or Google and by Accountable. What should I do?

First, check that your App Store or Google Play subscription is properly cancelled. Then contact us in the chat and we'll look at your situation together.

  • Can Accountable cancel my Apple or Google subscription for me?

No, only you can do it from your Apple or Google account. This is a rule set by the stores.

  • Can I get an invoice for my previous Apple or Google payments?

These payments are handled by Apple or Google, who send you a receipt. Accountable can't issue an invoice for these amounts. Here's where to find your receipts.

Any questions? We're here in the chat or at support@accountable.eu, happy to help 😊
