Everything you need to know about Accountable Banking for legal entities

An overview of everything you need to know about opening an Accountable Banking business account for a legal entity (company).

Written by Steve

What is Accountable Banking for legal entities?

Alongside business accounts for self-employed people in their own name, Accountable Banking also offers a business account for legal entities (companies), built right into the Accountable app.

Accountable Banking offers all the services you'd expect from a traditional bank. We're subject to the same strict regulations and standards as traditional banks, so you get a safe and reliable banking experience.

Which legal entities can open an account?

We currently accept the following company types:

  • SRL (Société à Responsabilité Limitée)

  • SS (Société Simple)

  • SC (Société Coopérative)

  • SA (Société Anonyme)

The same restricted activities that apply to accounts for self-employed people also apply to legal entities. You'll find the full list in this article.

🚨 Important: only already existing companies

We can only open an account for a company that is already legally incorporated, meaning already registered with the KBO/BCE. We cannot open an account for a company that is still in creation (a "vennootschap in oprichting" / "société en formation"). Our banking partner Swan is not able to provide a preliminary account to help finalize your company's incorporation.

Opening an account — Here's how it works

1. Verify your identity

Only one legal representative of the company needs to officially verify their identity through video identification.

  • Keep a valid ID card handy

  • Verification happens through a smartphone

  • It only takes a few minutes

For the other legal representatives and/or UBOs, a copy of their ID may be requested instead; no video identification needed for them.

2. Upload the required documents

Our banking partner Swan will review the company's documents. 👉 You'll get a clear email with instructions on which documents to upload if anything is missing.

3. Start using your business account 🚀

Once everything is verified, your business account is officially active and ready to use.

Which documents are needed?

Depending on your situation, our banking partner Swan may ask for the following:

  • An extract from the UBO register (ultimate beneficial owners)

  • The ID card (front and back) of every UBO

  • Personal information for each UBO: address, date and place of birth, etc.

  • Financial information: invoices, bank statements, etc.

  • Power of attorney in case the legal representative can't represent the legal entity by himself/herself.

💡 The exact list of documents requested can vary depending on your situation.

How long does activation take?

Activation timing can vary depending on the number of UBOs and how quickly documents are provided. In some cases it can take longer, for example when:

  • Documents are missing or incomplete

  • There are questions about the company's activity or ownership structure

  • Identity verification needs to be redone for one or more UBOs

💡 Tip: Double-check that all information is correct and clearly legible — this speeds up the process a lot.
